New 1/1250 scale waterline model of the American minelayer Salem CM 11 by Saratoga (SMY 70) as in 1942.
5,300 tons, 350 feet long. Maximum speed 12 knots.
Built 1916 by William Cramp and Sons as SS Joseph R. Parrott. Acquired by US Navy June 8, 1942, commissioned August 9, 1942. Served as minelayer during invasions of North Africa and Sicily. Transferred to Pacific May 1944 and operated as ammunition transport and anti-submarine net layer. Renamed Shawmut August 1945 to free name for heavy cruiser Salem. Decommissioned December 1945, Sold March 7, 1947 to West India Fruit and Steamship Company, flagged in Honduras, and sailed until 1970 under her original name.
